The PayPal 21 day hold is ridiculous, but what bothers me even more than that is PayPal’s power to do whatever wish! They have control over your funds and possibly the linked bank & credit card accounts. I disliked the loss of personal information when purchasing items from ebay and then paying with paypal. As an attempt to become anonymous, I specifically created two new accounts – one ebay and one paypal. I used my company address and sent $$$ to the new paypal account to fund it. Now, I’ve discovered I’m not allowed to spend a penny unless I link a bank account or credit/debit card to it. That was the whole point with a new account. I did not want to link my bank account or credit card! Why was the account allowed to be created if the bank or credit card link is necessary to spend the funds? Further, why was it allowed to be received into the account without creating a link to a banking or debit/credit account? PayPal should not have let me accept the money without a financial link if I would not be allowed to spend it.
When one buys something from ebay, your personal information is exposed. Using a company address can help that, but when you make payments from PayPal, more personal & financial information is exposed. What if you have a truly bad purchase experience and the seller becomes angry with you? This has not happened to me, but I see the real possibility. What would stop someone from going to your address if they became truly angry? I live in Dallas, and there are a lot of hot tempers here!
Along with this complaint, I welcome any advice in becoming anonymous with ebay purchases.
