The auction websites such as godaddy never check this information, even though in my opinion this should be a prerequisite for each and every domain auction. When they’re not checking this they are basically allowing a lot of fraud to occur if people don’t do their homework.

If you buy a domain with a fake pagerank you will end up with just that, a FAKE pagerank, thus that means it’s non existent. It shows a pagerank from a different high PR domain, while the real pagerank in reality is 0.

However I have a question. Even if the pagerank is forged, why are there still many auctions on sites like godaddy to sell these sites?
And if I try to buy one and host it, will the pagerank remain as it is or will go away?

Mankind is free, thus everyone is free to believe whatever they want to believe. I did not imply anything. This post is about pagerank not religion.

It was merely a coincidence and the first website that I have found to forge the pagerank. This article was written over 2 years ago and indeed in the meantime the demonstrated website became a parked website that is not faking the pagerank. However, the procedure still remains the same to find out new websites with a fake pagerank.

Another tool people can use is http://www.fakepageranks.com

This tool checks for redirects as well and is very accurate in verifying pageranks.

Only google knows the exact algorithm behind pagerank, so only google may devalue or uplift your pagerank. One very known reason on why you can lose pagerank is if google catches you selling paid links for the only purpose being passing pagerank.

There is value of getting a link from a faked pagerank domain. But this value is proportional to the real pagerank value the domain has, which is most likely 0. So in essence the value of such a backlink is basically zero and it’s in no way worth to purchase such domains.

Thnx for the valuable information but I wonder how this pagerank lose its value? and also is there any value to get a backlink from a fake-pagerank domian?
In fact I’ve bought some fake pageranked domains and I dont know what to do with them… Is there any good to take links to my websites from those domains or is it worthless also?

This topic is very interesting for me. We knew we were to loose one domain soon, so we bought a new one and set up a 301 redirect from the old we were going to loose to the newly registered. This redirection was kept for about 2 months. Google glued 2 domains together, the new domain started showing same PR as the old one. Now old one is gone, actually stolen by competitors. The fake pagerank detection tool shows old domain has a forged PR. And I really hope its going to loose that unreal PR soon.
