Late Buying Cycle Keywords

In today’s era the average buyer is more information hungry than ever before. Usually when a potential buyer is interested in buying goods or service he will research his field. He will start with general keywords and as he becomes more familiar with what exactly he wants, narrow it down to what we call late buying cycle keywords. These keywords are what we are looking for. For example someone wants to make money online, but doesn’t yet know how to do it. His first searches may be something like “how to make money online” or “making money”. These are very broad keywords and not very targeted, because we don’t exactly know what the buyer is interested in. He may want to make money online trading stocks or forex. Maybe he wants to make money online as a programmer or article writer. If we were advertising an affiliate marketing ebook, not many of these searchers would be interested in what we are offering, therefor our traffic would go to waste. That rule is true for PPC advertising as well as organic search. Therefor in order to maximize our ROI, we have to laser target our keywords and think like a searcher who is in buying mode.

The most targeted keyword is of course the product name itself. Buyer knows exactly what he wants and is ready to buy, he is just looking for the best offer. Other buying cycle keywords include words to a solution or increased quality of life. All we ever buy is because we need a solution for our problem or to increase quality of our lives. We can take advantage of this knowledge with proper late buying cycle keywords. The following list will explain these keywords, however you must be aware that these keywords do not work for every industry! You must research your targeted audience beforehand. You may use these keywords before, after or even in the middle of your main niche keyword. Where the best position is, you may find with google adwords keyword tool.

Conclusion

We could take any keyword and break it down to a niche keyword. Remember that search volume is not an indicator of profitability. You may have a general keyword which would bring you 100 uniques per day, but your sales are less than 0.5%. Conversely you may have 100 laser targeted keywords which each would only bring 1 unique visitor per day, but would convert at 5%. Which approach would you take?

Great post! I wish I had been thinking this way when I first got started with PPC, it would have saved me a lot of wasted money and gained a lot more conversions.

Very informative article. When I first started, I would target a very broad keyword! It’s really funny when I think about it but I’m glad I’ve learned to understand the buying stages involved in a user’s buying decision. Thanks again!
