I signed a contract with them for 18 months. This is what they asked me to sign:
________________________________________________
SERVICE FEE AND PAYMENTS: In consideration for all services to be rendered under this
agreement, Client agrees to pay New Beginnings a service fee equal to 15% of the Client’s total debt accepted into the program (the “Total Service Fee”), payable as follows:
Upon acceptance into the program, Client shall pay an enrollment fee ($1,501.80) equal to five percent (5%) of the total debt accepted into the program. This enrollment fee covers the heavy
upfront costs of analyzing your debts and overall financial situation, assigning and enrolling your debts with a personal account manager, and analyzing and developing your comprehensive
debt repayment schedule. You have the option of paying this enrollment fee up front, or spreading it out as follows:
Month 1 $917.77 Month 2 $584.03
The remaining balance of the Service Fee ($3,003.60) equal to 10% of total debt shall be paid by Client in 13 equal consecutive monthly payments beginning after the enrollment fee is paid. The
amount of each of these payments shall be $231.05. Client will receive a Payment Confirmation Schedule upon enrollment detailing all Service Fee payments, the required total monthly savings
amount of $917.77 for 18 months (which includes all fee payments), as well as a schedule of the approximate time each debt will be satisfied. Client agrees to have its payments of Service Fees automatically deducted by New Beginnings from an authorized checking, savings, or other account with the first such payment to be so
deducted on the 05 day of December and thereafter on each month on:
5th 10th 15th 20th 25th 30th

I agreed to this. Kept calling them repeatedly every 3 months to check with the progress. They always sounded hunky dory. Always optimistic about my chances.
“Don’t worry, Raj, We are here to take care of you!”
12 months passed and I kept making the agreed payments, deducted by automatic transactions via my checking account with Washington Mutual.
Then I got the ultimate bad news. The creditor sued me and sent me a notice via mail. I had 90 days to respond or accept a civil trial. When I approached them, they were repulsive in their behavior blaming me for everything that had happened in the past. They recommended that I hire myself a lawyer.
I told them fine I will go ahead and seek legal advice. Please give me a full refund. That is when their tune changed dramatically. They accused me of violating the said contract. This was a very difficult time for me since I was laid off in the month ensuing. They had no compassion or sense of responsibility. Finally, I was forced to file Chapter 7.
I hold New Beginnings totally responsible for the mess I am in. They misled me all the way. Kept things hidden from me regarding their conversations with the creditor. They are Bernie Maddoff!!!! All they wanted is their service fees. They could not care less for their clients.
Shame on you New Beginnings. I am exposing your immoral character and dubious and fraudulent business practices.

Hi Raj,
OMG, what you have experienced is horrible. I’m so upset at myself for not researching New Beginnings Debt Settlement, Inc. in the first place. Instead, I was so desperate that I signed up with them. I’m gonna cancel and cut my losses. I always had a bad feeling about them, but my level of desperation was so high and I couldn’t take the pressure anymore. Now that I read your post and others on the Internet, I feel sick to my stomach. I hope they won’t make a big deal and let me cancel and give me my money back. Something needs to be done, isn’t there any government agency that protects consumers against these type of scams? You have no idea how disgusted I am by them. They just take your money and they say they talk to your creditors and they probably don’t do crap.

I, too, joined out of sheer desperation. They feed on that. I have frozen my account and alerted my bank as of today. They are complete scammers! No legitimate company operates this way, I wish I had done my homework. What is it going to take for them to be shut down?
