My boyfriend William and I had to move from Mount Rainier Maryland to Tucson AZ. We needed a mover that was fair with price and had storage units available. We received a phone call from Destination Mover Inc. on may 28th 2008 they originally quoted $1000.03 for our move and said they had storage available. They also had a great payment plan of half now half later. Or at the time we thought it was great. In a hurry and without anytime to do research we booked them for the next day. They told us they would be at the apartment between noon and four they didn’t show up until after 8pm.There excuse to us was there was heavy traffic that day and that they were stuck in West Virginia.

We had to catch a bus to Michigan that evening at 8:30pm so we left our apartment open for them to get in, and gave them a direct area to where to find the security door key. Worried that they never showed up, and this call made things worse in the middle of the night driver calls who was suppose to pick up our belongings at 4pm not 8pm stating he was unable to get into the apartment and was wondering if we could possibly let them in.

We were half way to Michigan at this point and had no way of getting back to let them in so panic started to set in. We called them the next morning and to our surprise Destination movers claimed they had our stuff and are waiting for us to tell them when to deliver.

We explained we would call when we were ready for delivery but needed to know how to get payment to them since they did not show up on time. They told us to pay upon delivery and that our storage was going to be $100 a month and that our first month was free. There was no mentioning of late fees or paying monthly for storage.

We had our stuff in storage for 4 months and had accumulated $1300.00 and was ready to start the moving process. We called Destination movers and to yet another surprise they claimed we owed them $1500.00 not $1300.00.

when asked how they got $1500.00 from, that’s when they told us about the late fee’s and that we were suppose to pay monthly for storage. We begged the manager to drop it down to $1300 but instead he told us he was dropping it to $1400 which after sending a payment to them of $750 just to be on a delivery list we came to find out he lied completely about changing our price to $1400 and now it was $1500 again.

We were done arguing with them and just wanted our stuff so we agreed to the $1500 and told them to send out our stuff right away. Since September 29th 2008, I was habitually lied to every week like clockwork one of there representatives kept claiming my stuff was going to arrive a week later or the very next Tuesday/Wednesday. Another time we called the manager claimed we weren’t even on the delivery list to begin with.a man we never worked with before told me my stuff was in Georgia and it would be here in 3 days. So we didn’t really know what to believe.

We received an e-mail from the manager on Wednesday the 22nd 2008 telling us the driver tried calling us and we were not answering the phone and he was trying to deliver our stuff. It was no more then 2 days before we got this message i had called destination movers and was told our stuff was to be here on that Friday.

William quickly called the driver who was a complete jerk told us he put it back into storage and tried to make it look like it wasn’t his problem anymore. We called Destination movers told them about what happened and the manager told us he would call the driver and ask him to send it back out and then call us back. He never called back.

I ended up having my mom call the driver who in turn agreed to deliver the items for an extra $200.00 after us explaining we didn’t have an extra $200 he dropped the charge and said he would deliver the next day and we needed to have cash not money order.

They arrived at my parents house on October 23rd 2008 and 1:45 pm and began taking things off the truck. I noticed while they were taking things off the truck some of my belongings were not on the truck such as:

The fallowing four items were boxed together:

  • 1 computer (mouse keyboard, tower and monitor.)
  • 1 13in tv set
  • 1 comcast cable box
  • 1 cordless phone

Upon inspection i noticed these were missing as well. The littler items were boxed together others were separate:

  • 1 single 4 drawer dresser
  • 1 electric can opener
  • 1 electric 4 cup coffeemaker
  • 1 box of dishes
  • 1 large plastic Christmas tree
  • 1 lounge chair
  • 1 step stool
  • 1 love seat
  • 1 twin mattress with box spring
  • 1 box of books
  • 1 foremen grill

It has been such a long time since we packed and we are still trying to figure out if anything else is missing. luckily for us nothing was severely damaged except for some small damage done to a tv stand.

Upon seeing the contract and unfortunately having to sign it before anything was unloaded i was told i would have had to sign this paper on pickup or what they did was considered stealing or theft. When i looked at the inventory list which was pretty much blank except they wrote mattress something else and box with an arrow that pointed to a number 9 space. It was not detailed at all even when we told them on the phone a list of everything we needed shipped.

We never received any paperwork from destination movers until delivery and only signed the estimate paper electronically. There was very little communication from their part. My boyfriend and I, mostly me were the ones who called them for information. They had only sent us maybe 3 e-mails since we booked them and that was it.

From this experience right here we find Destination movers to be completely unprofessional and it showed they did not listen to anything we said. They do not care for their customers or their belongings. I have seen numerous reports about this company from many complaint websites, and I’ve seen them pretend to be clients and write good reviews about themselves. It makes me sick to think these people get away with what they do and something really needs to be done.

Something interesting I found out about them was they originally were known under another name and back in 2003 was forced to shut down due to so many complaints from customers. They reopened in 2007 under Destination movers.

If I could go back and do things differently, I would of done my homework on this company and maybe I wouldn’t have had to deal with all the headaches this company caused me.
