Myself and a few friends have been looking for new work contracts outside our country borders . One of my colleagues even left his current job to start in Nigeria only to find it is a big scam. He sent money which he will never see again. We have received a job offer from company named Total Petroleum company in Senegal, offering us work. The trick however is that some upfront payments are required. Below are some of the false documents this company sends out:
The Actual Offer Letter
We are pleased to offer you a position with TOTAL PETROLUEM COMPANY. Your start date, compensation, benefits, and other terms of employment will be as set forth below and on EXHIBIT A.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
1. Position and Duties: TOTAL shall employ you, and you agree to competently and professionally perform such duties as are customarily the responsibility of the position as set forth in the job description.
2. Outside Business Activities: During your employment with TOTAL, you shall devote competent energies, interests, and abilities to the performance of your duties under this Agreement. During the term of this Agreement, you shall not, without Total’s prior written consent, render any services to others for compensation or engage or participate, actively or passively, in any other business activities that would interfere with the performance of your duties hereunder or compete with Total’s business.
3. Employment Classification: You shall be a contract Employee and shall be entitled to benefits as specifically outlined herein.
4. Benefits: You will also receive Total’s standard employee benefits package (including health insurance), and will be subject to Total’s vacation policy as such package and policy are in effect from time to time.
4.1 Death Benefit: Should Employee die during the term of employment, the TOTAL shall pay to Employee’s estate any compensation due through the end of the month in which death occurred.

Authorization to work: Due to the second ministerial meeting between European Union (EU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on terrorism which was held in Brussels on 12 October 2001. Where regulations adopted on Immigration Reform and Control Act, you will need to present documentation demonstrating that you have authorization to work in West Africa. This documents which include work permit and Resident permit will be obtain from the Wave link Travel Services here in Senegal Dakar.
6. Severability: If any of the provisions of this Agreement are determined to be invalid, illegal, or unenforceable, such provisions shall be modified to the minimum extent necessary to make such provisions enforceable, and the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect to the extent the economic benefits conferred upon the parties by this Agreement remain substantially unimpaired.

SALARY: USD: $22,950 per month (or Euro equivalent depending on home country and currency preference)

RESUME WORKDAY: 28th Feb 2009
WORKING PERIOD: The Contract period is for Two year and it can be renewed after Two year contract period, and you will be working from (Monday till Friday From 9am – 4pm), and three times paid vacation in a year one month for every three months.
JOB PROCEEDING/REQUIREMENT:
New employed and recruited for TOTAL PETROLUEM COMPANY (And not presently possessing a valid ECOWAS Residence and Work Permits/Identification card) shall be expected to personally incur all expenses as shall be related to the processing, procurement and acquisition of their necessary permits clearance papers with the Wave Link Travels Services here in Dakar Senegal and shall be duly reimbursed and will be substantiated with receipts and the employer will reimburse the employee not later than Five (5) working days after submission of employee’s expense report and receipts.
You shall be required to furnish us with your valid ECOWAS residence, work permits and identification card on or before the 30th of Jan, 2008 as a proof of readiness to join the TOTAL COMPANY project team in the due time as stipulated above for your job resumption with the TOTAL COMPANY in Senegal and also to enable you receive your first monthly salary including your due entitlements/emoluments prior to your departure for services with the TOTAL PETROLUEM COMPANY in Senegal.

the first time i read email i was so happy and this was a very very good opportunity since i was so eager in applying jobs abroad, but i need to be very careful in every details of information….
i want to share some of my observation it might help others to prevent in falling this kind of scam…
- watch out for the email the sender was using? if he/she represent a company/agency why using an free email like “@yahoo.com”, “gmail.com” etc…instead look for an personalized company email or maybe check there website…
- try to search the company’s name…look at this word “TOTAL PETROLUEM COMPANY IN MADRID SPAIN”…. i try to search this word using copy & paste…have you notice the spelling of the word “PETROLUEM”?…
- and i always remember what i read in a forum…never give/release money to someone who is pretending to be an employer/agent…if the company need’s you they are the one who will cater all of your expenses going to there country…and besides this is the usual offer…

i recieved the same fraud offer but to total spain and i couldn’t belive that a company would sent such an offer without even making an interview by phone so i sent the offer to the spanish embassy hope they can stop such ppl from decieving innocent ppl who looks forward for real jobs

I am from the Philippines and have also received the same email. I even contacted the two (Carlos Albero and Ana Maria Lopez) and indeed they said the this is genuine. Too good to be true for me since the amount they offering for salary is too big. And what it made me hesitant on this is that they advise not to contact the Embassy of Spain here in our country,.from that you will really suspect them that this is just a scam. I wonder how do these people operate internationally and nobody puts them to stop..so beware folks…

I got similar one but named by Fujairah Petroleum, same attached questions to the spanish e-mail , first thing I check is the mail of the sender , then the web site, no BIG company will send to me from google by its name , they should use google mail to hide their company if it is confidential, any way I didnt believe the spanish company and now the dream of Fujairah has gone

I also received a letter from this company with an online interview attachment. I started doing some research and have only found fraud complaints, nothing valid. Thanks for posting all of the info!

I got the same email, called them. one guy told that he is Carlos Alberto and he said he is not aware of this scam information on the internet. They seem to be clever, to set up all these… But somebody should stop them ASAP. I found again from internet, they offer the same amount to all people, around 14000 Euro(or USD) which is not normal even for south africa… Also if they are willing to pay that much money, they can easily buy a plane ticket and send an invitation letter first. They won`t lose anything. That is how it works. But instead they ask money from you (around thousand Euro)…
If you get this email, please send to Spanish Embassy, or some authorities.

I have the same experience in TOTAL PETROLEUM COMPANY IN MADRID SPAIN and almost done with the online interview application until I decided to search the company in google and nothing to see but the word “scam, bogus etc..” thanks for all the information.

i also got an employement leter from total petroleum company,,they offered me 14950 euro which is considerably a big amount…they offered all other benifits also..for the sake of confirmation i jst browse total petroleum on net n jst found this discussion forum…i think all of v r victimz of same fraud company…they play with our feelings and take advantage of our hard timez…thanx alot for informing that this is a fraud company..

I am from the Philippines, currently living in Saudi Arabia. I also received the same email from a Carlos Alberto for a supposed job opportunity in Total Petroleum Madrid. It was very tempting. Good thing I decided to look up the company name first and found this post and several others confirming the fraud. Thanks and hopefully others get to see this first before responding to the email.

dear my brothers ,
i want to tell all of u that i got about 3 companies offers and they are ( shell petroleum in dakar–total petroleum in spain– eba petroleum in spain) and all of these offers are not true and i sent email to the sender to ask him if he can pay the work permit fees and deduct from my salary when i start my duty but he reply that he cant because in the past he payed the fees instead of the employees and after that the dont come and he lost too much money . i called the spanish embassy in egypt and i asked the about these contracts and they told my that all these contracts untrue and illegal so i want to tell all my brothers that dont believe this emails

Just received same offer letter today. Thank you guys for all the info. This is definitely a scam for such an innocent people like us. Will forward this to Spanish Embassy.

thanks God i found this webpage when im searching around the internet to figure out on validity of this company. I got their offer also but they use SHELL PETROLEUM COMPANY Dakar Senegal name. Beware!they might use other name but looking at the offer letter contents it all te same word they use.
