A friend experienced a kind of credit-card fraud for which we can find no precedent or motivation. She received a few low-value items in the mail over the course of a few days, and found that one of her credit cards was being used for the purchases. She immediately reported the fraud to her credit-card company and canceled the card. Given that these were such low-value items, can someone please explain how the perpetrator hoped to benefit? Would a number of transactions be needed to verify the validity of a stolen or generated card? The orders apparently came from different fronts of the same company. Did the orders somehow establish the validity of the company for some fraudulent purpose?
